As I have mentioned before I am currently unemployed. Even though I am one of the lucky ones, I have state and union unemployment available to me, it still gets to me. My mood has not been all that great, it does not help matters none that we have had so many rainy days here in the Midwest lately. When I first was laid off I was working on my beaded jewelry in and effort to keep my mood up and with the thought of selling it as a way to make some money. Unfortunately I have not really been doing much with that either, I just was giving in to the blah feeling of it all.
In an effort to break out of that mood, I have been taking pictures of the jewelry that I do have made. (even though I do not like the quality the camera gives me, that is for another post). Last night I started working on editing for upload. I do not have much done yet, but it is a start.
I just uploaded some pictures of one piece that I have repaired. I showed the piece to both WPG and Country by Design when I got to meet them, but unfortunately it was broken at that time. So I wanted to post that one first so that they could see how I repaired it.
The necklace has a glass heart pendant and when I originally made it the pendant had a glass loop on it for suspending it from the necklace itself, but I broke it when I was storing it away to take with me on vacation. I have since repaired it using some copper wire to make a cage and loop for the pendant. I will probably not sell this item because even though I have filed down the sharp edges of the glass where the loop broke off of the heart, I do not want to take the chance that I missed anything. I am not sure what I will do with it now.
I went to Phoenix recently to visit some family members. Before I left Missouri, I met up with Country By Design, but I forgot to take any pictures. But that is okay, as WPG told me it give me an excuse to meet up with Country By Design again later.
My trip was not near long enough there was so many more things we could do. I did get to go see an old friend of mine, with my sister, and it was a very fun afternoon. On another day I got to meet up with WPG, again I do not have any pictures because this time I let her do the picture taking, so we will have to wait for her to post pictures. (I had digital camera envy, I so want a camera like hers). I took some of the jewelry that I have been making to show, since my camera is not up to the task. I was so surprised and pleased when WPG asked to buy some of the pieces. I am definitely going to have to get pictures taken and post the rest of my jewelry online to sell it, then maybe I will get the chance to by my dream digital camera similar to WPG's.
While on my trip I got to go to The Organ Stop Pizza restaurant . My Uncle tries to take me there every time I am in the Phoenix area. The place is built around this amazing pipe organ, some of the pipes are even 3 stories tall. I took a picture
but if you would like to see better detail you would be better to check out the website. This place is fun to go to and I got to hear him play one of my favorite pieces. He played the Star Wars movie theme music, it sounds great on this elaborate pipe organ system. My Uncle also took us to Tubac, where we went to a small little hole in the wall kind of Mexican restaurant called Wisdom. We brought a paper home with the history of the place but my sister has it right now, I am going to have to try and get it from her so that I can tell more about it. We also went to a little shopping area that is an art district kind of place. My Uncle is not a big shopper so we did not get to spend as leisurely of a time looking, as we probably would have if it was just us girls. But that is okay because then we would have been even more tempted to buy something that we really can not afford.
Oh we also made a really brief stop and a mission that is being rehabbed, called San Xavier Mission. I got a picture of the plaque with my digital camera,
but the other pictures that I took were with my film camera and I have not gotten those developed onto a CD yet. I will try to remember to post pictures when I get it back.
We stayed at my cousin's place and it was like getting to stay at resort. When my cousin moved to Phoenix to be closer to my aunt and uncle her husband let her design the house the way she wanted and she has great taste. Because they were moving to Casa Grande which is outside of Phoenix and is so much more of a desert style landscape, her husband made sure the back yard was landscaped to soften the desert feel. It was my favorite part of the house.
I am not sure what the plant is called but I really liked the looks of the flower on it. Maybe WPG can tell me what it is.
I took some other pictures with my 35mm camera but I will have to wait until I get them developed so that I can see if there is anything worth posting.
I decided to be a little creative and started a new group. Missouri and other 'Midwest' neighbors I know there is one other Missouri group on VOX, but it does not seem to be generating very many members so I thought I would start one that included Missouri's Midwest neighbors. I have a picture on it right now that is not a very good one of the Arch. I will have to look thru my old photographs and see if there is a better one that I can use as the profile photo. Who knows I may have to plan a trip downtown to get a new photo. It is always kind of ironic to me that when you live near a major tourist location, you hardly ever go to it if at all but if you are from out of town and especially out of state you are very interested in going to see this tourist spot. Well that is how it is with me, for most tourist locations in Missouri, but the Arch I have been to a few times, I just seem to take all my pictures of the area around it and not very many of the Arch itself. If any one has some Arch pictures they would like to share feel free to do so.
I know I am passed the deadline for this weeks entries, and my picture is actually from December but I thought I would just share it for the fun of it, since I do not have any time to really come up with a full entry.
Okay I could not resist putting in more than one. all of these were taken late at night with a DeWalt flashlight as my lighting, and then I used my photo editing software to change the coloring.
This one is an attempt at trying to get a picture of the fog that froze on top of the ice that was already on the fence
Okay when I first read the theme WPG presented for the first post in Photo Quest I could not think of something to take a picture of. At least not anything that I thought was photogenic enough or that really reminded me of someone that I cared about our admired, other than other photographs. While I was out this week I bought myself some flowers to cheer myself up and the more I looked at the flowers I was reminded of an elderly neighbor that I used to take flowers to every holiday. She was like the neighborhood grandma and she loved flowers, but as she got older she could no longer go out and work in her garden. As she got further on in years it was even harder for her to see the flowers outside very well. I knew how much she loved her flowers and all the bright colors, because this was a joy that both of us shared despite our age difference. I am not sure what inspired me to start taking her flowers, but I started doing it when I was in about 7th grade I think. At first I would just cut some blooms off of Moms roses and go across the street to the other neighbors house and ask for a couple cuts off of her flowers. When I was in high school I started buying bouquets at the local grocery store. Every time I would show up at her door with the flowers she would give me the biggest smile and the warmest hug. I think on some small selfish level I did it to get those hugs and the fact that I loved the flowers just as much myself. There were times when I just could not decide on just one bouquet so I would buy more than one and then rearrange the flowers to look there best as one unit. I knew right where the vases were kept and I would put everything together in her kitchen while she waited in the front room. There was a couple of times that I got so carried away that I had to use 3 vases to put all the flowers in. Oh I also would get her a mylar balloon on many occasions. She saved each and everyone one of the balloons after they went flat. She kept them on the spare bed. I am not sure what ever happened to all those balloons when she passed, I am sure they got pitched by her son when he cleaned out the house.
So in memory of a great lady that was like an extra grandmother to me, and who liked all the colors and beauty of flowers as much as I did, I present some late entry photos of flowers.
The first ones are with a flash.
And here are a few showing the use of a zoom.
I only have a point and shoot digital camera so these will have to do for showing different settings.
ps: I tried to take some macro shots but just could not hold my camera steady enough to get a decent shot, maybe next time.
Okay I have been spending a little more time uploading pictures on Flickr.
I will have to post some on here too so you all can have chance to see them. or you can go check on them until I do at my Flickr link.
But for now I need to get to bed, and get rest for tomorrow

edit:
I hate when I second guess myself, but now I am not so sure that I am remembering that right. maybe the color was just from the blood of the antlers before they were shed. oh well so much for remembering useless trivia

Since I have been laid-off, I have been using my spare time (aka boredom) to scan old photos and upload them to flickr. This is one of the many many photos I have recently added, it is from trip I took with my sister, in 2000, to the SanDiego Wildlife Park (part of the SanDiego Zoo system). I took over 5 rolls of film that day and would have taken more. There was a young girl taking the tour with her grandpa and she ran out of film before it was over, so I gave her some of my film so that she could have fun taking more photos. I would have just let her have the film for free but her grandfather insisted on giving me some money for the film. I know he gave me more than the film was worth, but he said it was worth it to him for her to be able to keep taking pictures. I am sure I used the film (oops money not film, lol) later on our trip to buy more film, LOL.
I have been downloading photos from my camera and playing around with editing them. I have also started a new Flickr account (still trying to get the hang of it). I also have uploaded to my vox photos (still having problems with my dial-up connection causing problems with the upload). So to have some fun with the photos to balance out the stress of technical problems, I played around with the colors of one particular photo and thought I would share them.
Hope they are as much fun to look at as they were to make.
I have been filling my time with some fun on the computer. I have been scanning old photographs (some not all that old) that I do not have digital images of. I have then been editing them, saving them, and posting them on VOX (yeah VOX).
My little photo library is getting rather big, but I have been dividing it up into collections to make it easier to browse.
I made a collection for pictures of the close quarters under the house that I had to work in recently to fix our propane lines (basically rip out the very old and start over with all new rigid pipe) It was not very fun, but it did give me a strong sense of accomplishment. It also provided a very real sense of security, because I knew all the old leaking, corroded, worn copper lines were now replaces with very solid, very well supported rigid pipe. I also made sure to install shut off valves in multiple locations so that if something went wrong with an appliance or a piece of the pipe, I would not half to shut down the whole system.
I also uploaded some more photos of my Oreo cookie, who is still doing well. She should be finished with her antibiotics in a day or two. I am keeping her in the house as much as possible during these last few days of cold icky weather.
I also started a new collection so that I could upload some photos of some of our pets from my childhood (only one uploaded at this point, but working on more).
This is my Shadow Puppy aka Saddow in little kid speak, lol.
Oh did I mention that parts of my house are over 100 years old? We have a corner stone with the date 1905 carved into it. I uploaded a photo of that too. It is not all that easy to read in the photo but this is it:
Well I think I will go have some more fun with my photos. I also added a few more winter shots. (I knew if I took a camera outside I would take more no matter how much I told myself that I had taken enough, lol)
